Download pre-installed weather gadget for Win 7? - Microsoft Community.Top 29 alternatives to Desktop Weather for Windows

By Elliot B. Anyone know of a replacement, now that Windows Desktop Gadgets have been removed from Windows 8? I bypass the Start screen using Start8. Personally I'm with post 2, I'd have just stuck with a weather app, but if you prefer something on the desktop there's always stuff like RainMeter, a fair number of weather skins for it that can be easily modified and pretty easy to work with.

I do this. Works nearly perfectly for me. The Stocks gadget fails frequently though, for some reason. Ending the task and restarting it fixes the issue. No real substitute for the weather gadget that I've found so I'm using the same method.

I know, I know, having information at a glance is so passe. Not only that but you can have multiple towns and cities, all at a glance.

So again, why are people so damn stubborn? Metro meets your needs and more, but you hate it so much you don't use it when it would help you. I don't think I'm being stubborn at all. It's a matter of preference for me. Why am I still using the gadget? Because I spend And i want a small, efficient, and non-full screen way of displaying weather information at all times. Gadgets fit that bill perfectly. The Weather gadget just sits there doing what it's supposed to do at all times and I can continue to work with as many different open windows as I want such an outdated idea, i know!

I have absolutely no reason to want to switch back to the horridly busy, ugly, disorganized, cluttered by default until you de-clutter it Metro Start Screen to see the automagically updating "live" tile. And I have even less reason to ever use the absolutely crappy Metro weather app.

On my awesome 30" monitor, why the hell would i ever want to switch over to a space-wasting, inefficient, slow-loading, full screen display of information that can easily fit into a tiny portion in the upper right corner of my Desktop?

I disagree with your statement that Metro meets my needs. It may meet yours, but it simply does not meet mine. I also use the Windows 7 gadgets. They are always in a visible spot as well, I agree with the OP it's better than having to toggle to the start screen or task manager to see stuff that was already included with Vista and 7 if you wanted it.

Just so you know, you don't have to do apps full screen only, you can also snapped the Weather to one side if it is that important to you. There are also some apps now that combine several tools to be used in the snap setup, so can do weather and other things, similar to gadgets. If you are 'flipping' or 'switching' to it, you can't also use the words 'at a glance'.

That is reserved for the Desktop. Eyeballs, rotate! Search In. A Windows 8 widget to replace the Windows 7 Weather gadget? Share More sharing options Followers 0. Recommended Posts. Elliot B. Posted January 3, I loved the simplicity and style of Windows 7's Weather gadget.

One click and you have 10 days, another click and you get a detailed forecast of those days. BeerFan Posted January 4, Founder Posted January 4, Arceles and Elliot B. Weather is fine on RT, but the gadget is better on the Desktop. This topic is now closed to further replies.

Weather Gadgets - Windows 7/8/10 Gadgets

I need a replacement for the disabled weather gadget in Windows 7. I tried the one by the weather channel but it will only work on one profile. Windows 8 will not work on my computer, even though it is 2 years old and a gamer. I don't like, or want, Windows 8. Have lots of practice using it fixing other's computers. I need a nice weatherr app that works on multiple profiles. Any ideas on what weather app to use or how to obtain and install the MSN app for Windows 7?

As per my knowledge there is no such application available for Windows 7. However, you may try to set MSN as your home page on Internet Explorer and can have all those information of local weather on that page. I would suggest you to click on send me a link in the below mentioned article of MSN and see if you are able to receive any download link of MSN weather app or not on your email.

Get prepared. Download the MSN Weather app. Hope the information provided is helpful. Do let us know if you have any more concern related to Windows.

We will be happy to assist you. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. I tried the "send me a link," before I posted here. It takes me to the Windows 8 download page for the MSN weather app. Microsoft is in the business of making money, not customer service. This is why they made the MSN weather app only available to Windows 8 users -- a ploy to get users of Windows 7 to update.

Something other 3rd party vendors do not do. Shame on Microsoft. Sorry, to hear that the link was not for any help. As it is taking you to Windows 8 download page so it of no use for you.

In that scenario I would suggest you to repost on MSN Forum and see if they can help you with the same or not. Feel free to post on the forum if you have any more concern related to Windows. Not allowed to post on MSN forum unless I have an account. This is for Microsoft to answer: Why don't you mkae the wether app compatible with Windows 7 and 8, not just 8? I would be happy to move it there if you like.

Gadgets have been disabled because of their security threats. Win 8 apps are secure and I am assuming that is what you want. I'm in the same boat with Sherry.

I loved having my weather gadget up in the corner of my monitor to be able to check the weather at a glance, without having to stop what I'm doing and open a weather page in my browser. This gadget is handy for me as I don't have any windows in my office and I'd like to be able to plan for the weather outside when I leave.

Are you saying they have just discontinued gadgets and have no alternative weather apps in place to replace them for Windows 7 users? Mine was working fine up until this week June 1, If they can create "secure" apps for Windows 8, why not Windows 7 also? The weather gadget hasn't been discontinued. Somebody decided to pull the plug on the online configuration file it's depending on for no obvious reason.

This deficit, however, can be countered manually. For a quick restore, open a command prompt and execute. This will remove the lockdown the gadget catches on with a config. For a solution lasting longer than 3 days, the file needs to be prevented from expiring by making a timestamp modification.
